2009 LA Tennis Open
The 2009 LA Tennis Open, also known as the LA Tennis Open presented by Farmers Insurance Group, was a men’s tennis tournament played on outdoor hard courts in Los Angeles. It was the 83rd edition and part of the ATP World Tour 250 series. The event ran July 27 to August 2, 2009 at the Los Angeles Tennis Center and was the second stop of the 2009 US Open Series. The tournament featured a 28-player singles draw and a 16-team doubles draw, with prize money of $550,000.
Pete Sampras, a 14-time Grand Slam champion and former World No. 1, was honored as the tournament’s honoree. The week kicked off with the Millennium Challenge at UCLA, where Sampras played Marat Safin in a rematch of their 2000 US Open final. The event also included a Legends Invitational Singles match featuring former greats Michael Chang, Stefan Edberg and Jim Courier.
In the singles competition, Sam Querrey won the title, defeating Carsten Ball 6–4, 3–6, 6–1 in the final. In doubles, Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan defeated Benjamin Becker and Frank Moser 6–4, 7–6(7–2) to take the championship.
