1831 Mississippi gubernatorial election
The 1831 Mississippi gubernatorial election was held on August 1, 1831. The main candidates were Abram M. Scott (National Republican), Hiram G. Runnels (Democrat), and Charles Lynch (Democrat). Two other candidates, Wiley P. Harris and Adam Gordon, also received votes.
Abram M. Scott won with 3,958 votes (31.6%), defeating Runnels who had 3,711 votes (29.7%), and Lynch with 2,902 votes (23.2%). The remaining votes went to Harris and Gordon.
Before the election, the governor was Gerard Brandon (Democrat). Scott, the National Republican candidate, became governor after the election.
