11th Armored Brigade (People's Republic of China)
The 11th Armored Brigade is a heavy armored, combined-arms unit of the People's Liberation Army Ground Force. It is part of the 83rd Group Army and is based in Queshan, Henan.
History in brief
- 1968: The unit was formed on September 15 as the 11th Tank Division in Xinyang, Henan, by combining four regiments from other divisions.
- 1969: About 3,000 personnel, with around 112 T-34 tanks and 80 SU-76 self-propelled guns.
- 1970s–1980s: Operated as a Tank Division (Catalogue A, then B) and served as a general reserve for the Central Military Commission. Some regiments were re-equipped or reorganized, including the addition of an armored infantry regiment.
- 1998: Renamed the 11th Armored Division; its armored infantry regiment was disbanded.
- 2011: The division was split; the 11th Armored Brigade was formed, and part of its battalions helped form the 160th Mechanized Infantry Brigade.
- 2017: Reorganized as the 11th Heavy Combined Arms Brigade.
Current status
- The 11th Heavy Combined Arms Brigade remains a key armored, mixed-arms unit within the PLA Ground Force, under the 83rd Group Army, based in Queshan, Henan.
