Şehitkamil is a district and municipality in Gaziantep Province, Turkey. It covers 1,290 square kilometers and has about 857,000 people (2022). It forms the northern part of Gaziantep’s metropolitan area and includes the surrounding countryside. The district contains the old city, including Gaziantep Castle, and the University of Gaziantep. On 20 August 2012, a bombing killed eight people and injured 64. Şehitkamil was the epicenter of the Mw 7.8 2023 Turkey–Syria earthquake, which badly damaged the district and its landmarks. Şehitkamil has 123 neighborhoods. The mayor is Umut Yılmaz (AKP). The area code is 0342 and the time zone is TRT (UTC+3). Official website: www.sehitkamil.bel.tr.
