Orange România is Romania’s main broadband Internet and mobile phone provider. It runs the country’s largest GSM network and is majority owned by Orange S.A., with some shares held by the initial investor and Telekom Romania. The company started in 1997 as Mobilrom, using the Dialog (subscriptions) and Alo (prepaid) brands. In April 2002, after France Télécom increased its stake, the company adopted the Orange brand to fit the group’s global strategy. By December 2012, Orange Romania had about 10.3 million mobile subscribers. It competes with Vodafone Romania in a highly dynamic market, with mobile penetration around 115% and Orange holding roughly 38% of the market. Orange Romania also owns 4% of Orange Moldova. In 2020, the company launched YOXO Romania, a virtual mobile network. The headquarters are in Bucharest.
