Zhang Yi (badminton)

Zhang Yi (张翼), born 16 May 1980 in Guangdong, China, is a former Chinese badminton player who mainly competed in doubles events. He is 1.84 meters tall and plays right-handed.

Early career
- In 1997, Zhang reached the final of the Asian Junior Championships in the boys’ doubles event with Cai Yun. They beat Xia Xuanze and Chen Hong in the semifinals but lost in the final to a Malaysian pair.

Move to Sweden and coaching
- Since 2004, Zhang has been a player and coach at the Täby badminton club in Sweden. He helped start the Swedish-Chinese Association in badminton and, as a Täby player, won the Swedish National Championships in men’s doubles in 2006 with Joakim Andersson.

International achievements
- Doubles: In 2006, Zhang and Joakim Andersson were runners-up at the Finnish International in men’s doubles.
- Mixed doubles: Zhang won several international titles with Cai Jiani. They claimed:
- 2007 Hungarian International
- 2008 Austrian International
- 2008 Portugal International
- 2009 Estonian International

Other notes
- In 2005, Zhang competed in the All England Open Badminton Championships, entering the main draw in the men’s singles after winning three qualification matches.
