Zaleszany is a village in north-eastern Poland, in the Gmina Kleszczele, Hajnówka County, Podlaskie Voivodeship, near the border with Belarus. After World War II, the area saw anti-communist resistance and armed violence from 1945 to 1946. In 1946, ethnic Belarusian Polish residents were attacked; Zaleszany was destroyed and 79 civilians were killed. A memorial in the village honors the victims. In 1995, the government investigated the events, interviewing families of victims and former partisans; none of the people identified as responsible were living at the time.
