You Need a Mess of Help to Stand Alone is the first compilation album by English band Saint Etienne, released on 6 December 1993 by Heavenly Recordings. It gathers singles and B-sides from 1990–1993, including the non-album singles Kiss and Make Up (1990), Speedwell (1991), Join Our Club/People Get Real (1992) and Who Do You Think You Are (1993). The title comes from a Beach Boys song of the same name. The album was issued on CD, cassette and vinyl. Artwork was created by Anthony Sweeney, with photography by Aude Prieur and James Fry. Before appearing as a standalone release, it was part of a 2CD limited edition reissue of So Tough. All tracks are written by Bob Stanley and Pete Wiggs, except where noted. Since the tracks have since appeared on other Saint Etienne compilations and deluxe editions of their studio albums, this compilation is now largely redundant.
