Yitzhak Maron (Hebrew: יצחק מרון) is an Israeli plasma physicist and a professor at the Weizmann Institute of Science. He is known for pioneering spectroscopic techniques to study plasmas under extreme conditions, such as very high currents, voltages, and magnetic fields for short durations. His work has earned him major awards, including the IEEE Plasma Science and Applications Award in 2007 and the John Dawson Award for Excellence in Plasma Physics Research in 2009. He was elected a Fellow of the American Physical Society in 1996 and a Fellow of the IEEE in 2003.

Education and career: Maron earned a B.Sc. from the Weizmann Institute of Science in 1968, an M.Sc. from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 1970, and a Ph.D. from Weizmann in 1977. After graduation, he remained at Weizmann as a postdoctoral fellow until 1980, then moved to Cornell University’s Laboratory of Plasma Studies as a Research Associate until 1984. He returned to the Weizmann Institute as a professor in the Physics Faculty and became head of the Weizmann Plasma Laboratory.

Personal life: He is married to Liora Maron and has three children. His work is conducted at the Weizmann Institute’s plasma laboratory.
