Exiles Memorial Center
Espaço Memória dos Exílios

The Exiles Memorial Center was in Estoril, Portugal. It showed a permanent display of photos, records, and objects about refugees who stayed in the Cascais/Estoril area from 1936 to 1955. The center opened in February 1999 above the Estoril post office, in a building that opened in 1942 and was designed by architect Adelino Nunes. Its main goal was to remember Portugal as a place of refuge for thousands of exiles during European conflicts, especially World War II. It was open to the public until it closed on 24 April 2023 by the city council. It is not yet known whether the closure is permanent or if the memorial space will be relocated. The piece also mentions a list of notable people who resided in Cascais by profession, place, and duration, but it does not provide details.
