Yakov Trenin
Yakov Vyacheslavovich Trenin, born January 13, 1997 in Chelyabinsk, Russia, is a professional ice hockey forward who plays for the Minnesota Wild in the NHL. He is 6 feet 2 inches tall, weighs 201 pounds, and shoots right. Trenin has also played for SKA Saint Petersburg, the Nashville Predators, and the Colorado Avalanche during his career. He represented Russia at the World Junior Championship in 2017 in Canada.
Trenin was drafted 55th overall by the Nashville Predators in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. He signed with Nashville that July and spent time developing in junior hockey with Gatineau before making his NHL debut. He scored his first NHL goal on December 7, 2019, against the New Jersey Devils.
On March 7, 2024, Trenin was traded to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for Jeremy Hanzel and a 2024 third-round pick. He played 16 regular-season games for Colorado, recording 3 points, and appeared in 10 playoff games with 1 goal as the Avalanche reached the second round before being eliminated by Dallas. As a free agent after his stint with Colorado, Trenin signed a four-year, $14 million contract with the Minnesota Wild on July 1, 2024.
