XMLSpy
XMLSpy is a proprietary XML editor and integrated development environment (IDE) from Altova. It helps developers build XML-based applications and web services using technologies such as XML, JSON, XBRL, XML Schema, XSLT, XPath, XQuery, WSDL, and SOAP.
The program first appeared in 1999 and has evolved through many versions. Highlights include:
- 3.5 (2000): graphical diagram editing and access to remote files
- 4.1 (2001): ability to create XML schemas
- 5.0 (2002): XSLT processor and debugger, WSDL editor, HTML importer, and Java/C++ code generators
- A redesigned editor aimed at easier use for businesses
Over the years XMLSpy has earned several industry awards and added features such as improved XPath support, better Word integration, JSON editing, WSDL 2.0 support, HTML5 and EPUB support, new XML validation tools, XQuery Update Facility, JSON Schema, and Apache Avro. It also offers advanced charting, graphing, and multiple editing views for working with XML, schemas, XSLT, XQuery, WSDL, SOAP, JSON, and XBRL.
XMLSpy is designed for Windows and remains a comprehensive tool for XML development, schema design, and web services.
