Ghulam Faruque Khan
Ghulam Faruque Khan (7 October 1899 – 29 April 1992) was a Pakistani politician and businessman who founded the Ghulam Faruque Group. He served as Governor of East Pakistan from May 1962 to October 1962 under President Ayub Khan, and later as Federal Minister for Commerce, Science and Technology from 1964 to 1967. He was a member of the National Assembly from 1973 to 1977 and a Senator from 1985 to 1991, and again from 1991 until his death in 1992. He was undefeated in every election he contested, including his wins in Peshawar NW in 1970 and 1972.
Born in Shaidu, North West Frontier Province (now Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), he studied at Aligarh Muslim University and began his career with the Bengal–Nagpur Railway in 1921, later becoming General Manager of the East Indian Railway Company (1946–1948).
After the partition of India, he held several key posts: chairman of the Pakistan Jute and Cotton Board (1949–1952), chairman of the Pakistan Industrial Development Corporation (1952–1958), and chairman of the Pakistan Ordnance Factory. He helped establish the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) and was chairman of East Pakistan WAPDA in 1958. He contributed to the Indus Water Treaty negotiations in 1960.
In recognition of his work, he received honors including Hilal-e-Pakistan in 1958. He died in Peshawar in 1992 at the age of 92.
