Wyndham Hotels & Resorts is a large American hospitality company that mainly runs hotels through franchises. Based in Parsippany, New Jersey, it calls itself the world’s largest hotel franchisor, with thousands of properties in more than 95 countries under about two dozen brands, including Days Inn, Ramada, Super 8, Travelodge, Howard Johnson’s, and La Quinta.

The company operates by owning the brand names and franchising them to hotel owners who run the properties. Geoffrey A. Ballotti serves as president. As of 2024, Wyndham reported roughly 9,286 hotels (or locations) and employed about 2,200 people directly, with the rest run by franchisees or affiliated operators. Key financials for 2024 include revenue around $1.41 billion, operating income about $495 million, and net income near $289 million. Total assets were about $4.22 billion, and total equity around $650 million.

A brief history: Wyndham’s roots go back to the Wyndham hotel brand created in 1981 in Dallas by Trammell Crow. The company expanded by acquiring other hotel brands in the 1990s, such as Days Inn, Howard Johnson’s, Ramada, and Super 8. It grew through a series of mergers and acquisitions and, in 2018, was spun off from Wyndham Worldwide (now Travel + Leisure) to form Wyndham Hotels & Resorts as a separate public company.

Since the spin-off, the portfolio grew further through acquisitions, including La Quinta in 2018, AmericInn in 2017, and the TRYP brand in 2010, among others. In 2018, many brands were rebranded to include the Wyndham name (for example, Days Inn by Wyndham). By 2024, the company offered a wide range of brands across its network and continued to expand its global footprint.

In 2023, Choice Hotels proposed buying Wyndham for about $90 per share, but Wyndham declined that bid and continued as an independent company. Wyndham’s brand portfolio continues to include well-known names such as Wyndham, Days Inn by Wyndham, Ramada by Wyndham, Super 8 by Wyndham, Microtel by Wyndham, Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham, and La Quinta by Wyndham, among others.
