Woollybush, woolly bush or woolly-bush is a common name for plants in the genus Adenanthos. Their leaves are deeply divided into long, soft, slender lobes and are often covered with fine hairs, giving them a silky feel. This softness is why they are called woollybush. About 13 Adenanthos species have these woolly leaves. Many species have common names that include the word woollybush. The two Adenanthos species that live outside Western Australia are still woollybushes, but their common names use the term gland flower. This suggests the woollybush name is mainly Western Australian. Botanist Ernest Charles Nelson notes the name has been in use for a long time and probably started near Albany, Western Australia.
