Qualifications for the men’s artistic gymnastics at the 2012 Summer Olympics were held on July 28 at the North Greenwich Arena in London. The results determined who moved on to the finals: eight teams for the team final, 24 gymnasts for the all-around final, and eight gymnasts for each of the six apparatus finals.

The competition had three subdivisions. The first ran at 11:00 BST (UTC+1), the second at 15:30 BST, and the third at 20:00 BST. Teams taking part in the team event were grouped together, while the other gymnasts were placed in six mixed groups. A draw by the International Federation of Gymnastics split the groups into subdivisions, and the groups rotated through all six apparatuses together.

Only two gymnasts from each country could advance to the All-Around Final. So, if a country had three gymnasts high enough to qualify, only two could compete in the final because of this limit.

Yordan Yovchev, at 39, was the oldest competitor in the artistic gymnastics events at these Games. He and Oksana Chusovitina share the record for competing in the greatest number of Olympic Games in artistic gymnastics—the 2012 London Olympics marked their sixth appearance.
