Stargach
Stargach, also known as Sturgach or Stargač, is a border mountain between southwestern Bulgaria and northern Greece. It is part of the Rhodope Mountains and has a rounded, gentle landscape.
Highest points: On the Greek side is Kulata Peak at 1,270 metres. In Bulgaria, the highest point is Asanov Vrah at 1,218 metres.
Geology and terrain: Stargach is mainly made of metamorphic rocks like marble and gneiss, with granite intrusions from older geological periods. The peaks and slopes are relatively rounded.
Flora: The lower areas have shrubs and light forests, while higher elevations host beech trees. Common plants include flowering ash, hazel, juniper, and lilac.
Access: The main entry point from Bulgaria is the village of Nova Lovcha. The easiest way to explore Stargach is by a hike.
Location: The mountain sits in Blagoevgrad Province, Bulgaria, and the Drama region, Greece.
