William Jewell (cricketer)
William John Jewell (1 January 1855 – 3 March 1927) was an English cricketer who played for Somerset. He was born in Wendron, Cornwall, and died in Taunton, Somerset. Jewell played one first-class match for Somerset in 1884 against Kent. He opened the batting in both innings and scored 9 and 1. He bowled in the match but did not take a wicket, and Somerset lost by an innings and 27 runs. In 1880, before Somerset had first-class status, he played a match against Sussex. He was a tail-end batsman and took four wickets in Sussex’s first innings with his bowling.
