MacCallum More and Hudgins House Historic District
MacCallum More and Hudgins House Historic District is a small historic area in Chase City, Mecklenburg County, Virginia. It covers about 6 acres and includes three contributing buildings and one contributing site: the Hudgins-Rutledge House (built in 1910), MacCallum More (built in 1929), and a guest cottage (about 1941), plus the landscaped gardens.
Hudgins-Rutledge House is a two-story frame home with a symmetric two-bay front, blending Colonial Revival and Neoclassical styles. MacCallum More was designed by Richmond architect Carl M. Lindner, Sr., and built in 1929 in Colonial Revival style. It has a two-story central block with a three-bay, symmetrical façade and side gable roof, flanked by one-story wings. The Guest Cottage is a one-and-a-half-story structure from around 1941. The gardens were designed in 1927 by Charles Gillette, and the property also includes the MacCallum More Museum and Gardens.
The district is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (since September 10, 2010) and is part of the Virginia Landmarks Register.
