William H. Pitt Health and Recreation Center
The William H. Pitt Health and Recreation Center is a 2,000-seat, multi-purpose arena on Sacred Heart University’s campus in Fairfield, Connecticut. It opened on August 17, 1997, after costing about $13.8 million to build (about $27 million in today’s dollars). The City of Fairfield owns the building, and Sacred Heart University operates it.
The center is home to Sacred Heart Pioneers men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s volleyball, as well as men’s wrestling and fencing. It hosted the finals of the 2008 Northeast Conference men’s basketball tournament.
Inside, the facility spans three levels and offers four basketball courts, a fitness center, an aerobics room, a fencing room, and a sports medicine and rehabilitation center.
Nearby outdoor facilities include an artificial turf field with an eight-lane track, six tennis courts, several grass fields, and trails around campus.
In 2007, the Pitt Center underwent major renovations: a new wrestling room, weight room, additional locker room space, new flooring, and a fresh paint job.
