William Arnson Willoughby

William Arnson Willoughby (February 2, 1844 – April 28, 1908) was a physician and Conservative political figure in Ontario. He represented Northumberland East in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario during three periods: 1886–1887, 1888–1898, and 1902–1908. Born in West Gwillimbury Township, Simcoe County, Canada West, he was the son of George H. Willoughby, who came to Upper Canada from Ireland. He earned his medical degree from Victoria College in 1867 and practiced in Grafton and Colborne. Willoughby served on the Colborne town council, including seven years as reeve, and was warden of Northumberland and Durham Counties in 1884. He also served as a surgeon for the local militia. He was elected to the provincial assembly in 1886 but was unseated on appeal; he was reelected in 1888 after the death of Richard Clarke. He died in Ontario in 1908 at age 64.
