The Bridge (M. C. Escher)
The Bridge is a black-and-white lithograph by Dutch artist M. C. Escher, first printed in March 1930. It shows a narrow bridge that links two sheer cliffs. On the left cliff sits a city at the top. Between the cliffs is a deep chasm that drops out of sight. In the distance, another rocky outcrop has a city on its summit. The far-outcrop and its buildings are drawn in darker tones. The houses resemble southern Italian architecture, and the rock formations are blocky, a style Escher used during his Italian period. Some people think the village might be Assisi. The print measures 53.6 cm by 37.7 cm (21.1 in by 14.8 in).
