Alexandru II Ghica
Alexandru Dimitrie Ghica (May 1, 1796 – January 1862) was a Wallachian prince from the Ghica family. He ruled as hospodar of Wallachia from April 1834 to October 7, 1842, and later served as caimacam (regent) from July 1856 to October 1858. He was the son of Demetriu Ghica and Eufrosine Caradja; his brother Michai Ghica was the father of Elena Ghica (Dora d'Istria).
Appointed by both the Ottoman Empire and Russia, Alexandru Ghica’s reign saw the introduction of the Regulamentul Organic, a framework aimed at codifying laws and improving administration and justice in Wallachia. After his rule, he was succeeded by Gheorghe Bibescu, who had Russian backing. He died in Naples in January 1862 at the age of 65.
