Warner E. Leighton
Warner Elvon Leighton (July 31, 1930 – March 20, 2005) was an American editor who worked in film, sound, music, effects and supervising editing. He was an only child. He married Patricia Relyea in the early 1950s; they had two daughters, Denise (born 1955) and Cynthia (born 1958). He later married Margaret (P.J.) Webb on March 3, 1984, and he had a grandson named Kyler, born in 1993.
In the 1960s, Leighton edited many Hanna-Barbera cartoons, including The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Atom Ant, Scooby-Doo, The Secret Squirrel Show, Jonny Quest, Hey There, It’s Yogi Bear, and Space Ghost. He also worked on cartoons associated with Jack Kirby and Stan Lee, such as Fantastic Four, and on Jonny Quest by Doug Wildey.
Leighton edited the film Gone in 60 Seconds. The production had no official script; much of the action and dialogue was improvised by the cast and crew, which caused problems for the editor because he didn’t always know what footage he had. He also edited The Junkman and Deadline Auto Theft for director H. B. Halicki.
He edited several television films, including C.H.O.M.P.S., The American Dreamer (for Dennis Hopper), and Wolf Lake.
