Wael Al Zard (December 24, 1972 – October 13, 2023) was a Palestinian Islamic preacher, university professor, and a Hamas leader. He grew up in Gaza City and finished high school in 1990–1991. He earned a BA in fundamentals of religion in 1995 and represented Palestine in a Quran memorization competition in Mecca in 1997. He earned an MA in The Noble Hadith in 2001 from the Islamic University of Gaza, with a thesis on Ibn Sunnah’s texts. He completed a doctorate from Ain Shams University in coordination with Al-Aqsa University in a joint program. He taught at the University College of Applied Sciences and previously worked at Al-Quds Open University and the Islamic University in Gaza. He served as the imam of the Grand Al-Omari Mosque in Gaza City and the main mosque in the Al-Dair neighborhood. He was married with eight children. He died on October 13, 2023, two days after being admitted to intensive care, after his home in Gaza City was hit by airstrikes during the Gaza war.
