WLIF
WLIF (101.9 FM, “Today’s 101.9”) is a Baltimore commercial radio station owned by Audacy, Inc. It broadcasts an adult contemporary format. The station’s studios are on Clarkview Road in the Mount Washington area, and the transmitter is near Loch Raven Reservoir in Towson.
History in brief: The station signed on February 6, 1960 as WAQE-FM, simulcasting WAQE (1570 AM). It became WTOW-FM in 1967, then WLIF in 1970. After a brief off-air period in 1970, it returned under new ownership. In the 1970s and 1980s it aired a beautiful‑music format branded as “The Beautiful Place In Your Life” (FM-102). It gradually shifted to more vocal soft rock and then soft adult contemporary by 1990, with a period of AM/FM simulcast. It was known as Lite 102 and later became 101.9 Lite FM. In December 2013, it relaunched as Today’s 101.9 with a hot adult contemporary lean while still playing AC hits from the 1980s to present. CBS Radio merged with Entercom in 2017, and the station is now part of Audacy.
Christmas programming: WLIF is famous for starting Christmas music around Thanksgiving and often playing wall‑to‑wall Christmas tunes through late December, sometimes continuing into January in some years.
HD Radio: WLIF began HD broadcasting in 2006. Its HD2 channel has carried New Country at 106.1 (via a translator), and HD3 has carried an oldies service; HD4 has carried HOPE FM programming through a partnership with Hope Christian Church.
