WISE 0734−7157 is a brown dwarf in the constellation Volans. It has a very cool spectral type of Y0 and sits about 44 light-years from Earth, making it one of the more distant Y0 brown dwarfs known.

Discovery
It was found in 2012 by J. Davy Kirkpatrick and colleagues using data from NASA’s Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE), which surveyed the sky in infrared from 2009 to 2011. In that study, seven new Y-type brown dwarfs were reported, including this one.

Distance and motion
The most accurate distance comes from a trigonometric parallax measurement in 2019: about 13.3 parsecs (roughly 43.5 light-years). The parallax is 73.35 milliarcseconds. WISE 0734−7157 has a notable proper motion of about −565.67 mas/yr in right ascension and −68.88 mas/yr in declination.

Brightness
Its apparent brightness in the J band (MKO system) is 20.41 ± 0.27, reflecting how faint it is in visible light.

Names
This object is also known as WISE J073444.02−715744.0 or simply WISE 0734−7157.
