Vyacheslav Nagovitsin (1939–2023) was a Russian composer and professor. He studied with Dmitri Shostakovich at the Leningrad Conservatory, finishing undergraduate studies in 1963 and graduate work in 1966. He worked at the Ulan-Ude Opera and Ballet Theater (1963–64), taught at the Mussorgsky Music School in Leningrad (1966–70), and was the music director of the Leningrad Comedy Theatre (1968–70). In 1970 he became a professor at the Leningrad Conservatory. Nagovitsin orchestrated two unfinished Mussorgsky operas, Zhenitba and Salammbô; his Salammbô arrangement was used by Valery Gergiev at the Mérida festival in 1991. He died on June 20, 2023, at age 83.
