Visakhapatnam Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS)

Visakhapatnam is planning a high‑capacity bus rapid transit system to handle rising traffic and limited road space. The BRTS was approved under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) and began in 2008. Most of the route has been built, but about 2 km near Simhachalam remains unfinished due to land clearance issues from railways, defence, and private parties.

Corridors
- Pendurthi Transit Corridor: 22.6 km, costing about ₹190.97 crore. Route runs from Pendurthi to the Railway Station via Gopalapatnam, NAD X Road, and Kancharapalem.
- Simhachalam Transit Corridor: 20.5 km, costing about ₹261.96 crore. Route runs from Vepagunta via Simhachalam, Adavivaram, Hanumanthavaka to Maddilapalem.

Total project length is about 42 km with a cost of around ₹452 crore. Financing is shared as follows: Andhra Pradesh government 20%, Government of India 50%, and GVMC 30% under JNNURM.
