Van Lear is an unincorporated community in Washington County, Maryland, United States. It’s part of the Hagerstown-Martinsburg metropolitan area and lies between Halfway and Williamsport. The community covers about 3 square miles and sits roughly 538 feet above sea level. It has around 3,000 residents and is sometimes known as The Manor or VL.

Van Lear began in the late 1960s when real estate agent Lee Downey started selling rural land to developers. By the 1980s, as the Hagerstown area grew, Downey created the first two neighborhoods, Van Lear Manor and Tammany Manor. Today, Van Lear features a mix of old and new homes, with newer neighborhoods often showing larger modern houses.
