Rot phumphuang

Rot phumphuang, also called rot kapkhao, is a Thai mobile shop that travels from village to village by pickup truck (sometimes a motorbike). It stops at homes to sell vegetables, meat (like pork or chicken), and other daily goods. Meat is cut, bagged in plastic, and hung on the truck bed. Some carts also sell non‑food items such as shoes, buckets, brooms, and more. The name means “bunch car” because items are displayed in bundles. The idea started around the late 1980s as new roads and housing developments spread, and it grew again during the COVID‑19 pandemic when markets closed and people looked for convenient shopping.
