Van Diemen's Land Ensign

Van Diemen's Land Ensign was an unofficial merchant flag used in the colony that would later be known as Tasmania, before the Tasmanian Flag was adopted in 1875. The earliest known reference comes from an 1850s flag chart by Captain John Nicholson, the Harbour Master of Sydney. The flag's design is similar to the Murray River Flag.
