Robert R. Lawson
Robert R. Lawson (c. 1872 – November 24, 1934) was an American newspaper editor, lawyer, and politician from Brooklyn, New York. Born in Brooklyn around 1872, he worked as a special correspondent, reporter and editorial writer for several New York City newspapers for about 15 years. He then studied law, earned an LL.B. in 1905, and practiced in Brooklyn. Lawson served in the New York State Senate representing the 9th District from 1915 to 1918 (138th–141st Legislatures). In 1917 he lost the Republican primary for Borough President of Brooklyn to incumbent Lewis H. Pounds. In 1918 he tried to win re-election to the Senate but was defeated by Democrat Charles E. Russell; the Citizens Union said he was unfit for legislative office and endorsed Russell. In 1920 he again sought office, losing the Republican primary for Secretary of State to John J. Lyons. He died November 24, 1934, at his Brooklyn home after a long illness.
