Presque Isle Harbor Breakwater Light
The Presque Isle Harbor Breakwater Light is a lighthouse at the end of the breakwater on the northeast side of Presque Isle Harbor, Marquette, Michigan. Built in 1941, it marks the offshore end of the breakwater, which was extended as part of harbor improvements begun in the late 1930s. The light remains an aid to navigation and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2016. The Coast Guard maintained it until the 1970s, when it was automated.
The lighthouse stands about 55 feet tall. It sits on a concrete base with a rectangular pier, an octagonal concrete first story, and a three-story steel tower painted white with a red band. The tower has a small cupola on top in the Streamline Moderne style. The original lens was a 375 mm lens; today the light uses an LED optic. It flashes a red light every 4 seconds and has a range of about 10 nautical miles.
