The University of Wisconsin–Green Bay (UW–Green Bay, UWGB, or Green Bay) is a public university in Green Bay, Wisconsin. It’s part of the University of Wisconsin System and uses the motto Ad Scientiam Renovandam, Latin for “To Update Science.” The school was founded in 1965 and began classes in 1968, moving to its current 700‑acre campus in 1969. In 2018, it absorbed the former UW–Marinette, UW–Sheboygan, and UW–Manitowoc branches to form UWGB’s regional campuses; in January 2024, the Marinette campus shifted to online instruction.

Enrollment and academics
UW–Green Bay offers associate, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees, plus a Doctor of Education in First Nations Studies. As of fall 2024, the university served more than 11,000 students. The main campus grounds about 9,000 undergraduates and several hundred graduate students. The school is organized into four colleges: Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; the Cofrin School of Business; Health, Education and Social Welfare; and Science, Engineering and Technology. In recent years, popular programs have included business, psychology, integrative leadership studies, human biology, and nursing.

Campus and facilities
The main campus sits on the northeast edge of Green Bay, overlooking Lake Michigan. It includes the Cofrin Arboretum, a 290‑acre natural area with public trails, and the David A. Cofrin Library at the heart of campus. The central concourse system connects many buildings, with the University Union and the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts nearby. Mary Ann Cofrin Hall, opened in 2002, is the newest building in the concourse network. Other key facilities include the Kress Events Center for athletics and events, and the Shorewood Golf Course on campus. The residence halls total 28 buildings, housing about 2,000 students on campus. Nearby features include Lambeau Cottage (historic house previously owned by Curly Lambeau) and Communiversity Park. The campus also houses or hosts the Weidner Center’s performance spaces and extensive collections in the Cofrin Library, including special regional archives.

Athletics
UW–Green Bay’s teams are nicknamed the Phoenix and compete in NCAA Division I as part of the Horizon League. The women’s basketball team has a long history of success, with multiple Horizon League titles and NCAA Tournament appearances, and notable runs including a Sweet Sixteen appearance in 2011. The softball team won the Horizon League tournament in 2005 and appeared in the national tournament, while the volleyball team won the league’s regular-season title and its first league tournament championship in 2018 and earned an NCAA Tournament bid. The school colors are green and white, and the mascot is Phlash the Phoenix.
