Comparative Studies of South Asia, Africa and the Middle East is a peer‑reviewed academic journal published three times a year. It publishes scholarly analyses that compare Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia, focusing on histories, culture, social and gender relations, politics, and economies in these regions. The journal is published by Duke University Press and has been edited at Columbia University since 2012. Editors include Marwa Elshakry and Steven Pierce. The journal began in 1993 as an expansion of the South Asia Bulletin, which started in 1981.
