United States Senate Committee on Corporations Organized in the District of Columbia
The United States Senate Committee on Corporations Organized in the District of Columbia first formed as a select committee in 1892 and became a standing committee in 1896. It was abolished in 1921.
Robert M. La Follette, a Republican, chaired the committee during the 63rd through the 65th Congresses (roughly 1913–1919). He held the chair even though his party was the minority. At that time the Senate had about 73 standing committees, more than there were Democrats to chair them, so some minority members were allowed to lead smaller committees.
