Unikrn
Unikrn Inc., known as Unikrn, is a Miami-based company that runs esports betting and entertainment media for a worldwide audience. Founded in November 2014 by Rahul Sood and Karl Flores, it offers real-money and token-based bets on esports tournaments and creates betting markets for competitive video-game matches.
The company has grown through investments and acquisitions, including backing Berlin International Gaming (BIG) in 2016, investing in MAINGEAR, acquiring Las Vegas startup LEET in 2017, and owning the Indian esports firm DotaProHub. In 2017, Unikrn released UnikoinGold, an Ethereum-based cryptocurrency. In August 2021, Entain acquired Unikrn.
In 2020, Unikrn settled with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission after raising about $31 million through UnikoinGold in a 2019 token sale that was not registered as a securities offering. Unikrn paid a $6.1 million penalty to be distributed to token holders and agreed to disable UnikoinGold. Commissioner Hester Peirce stated she did not view the action as a finding of fraud and urged regulators to balance innovation with regulation.
