Ugod is a small village in north‑western Hungary, in Veszprém County, near Mount Bakony and close to Lake Balaton. It lies where the Bakony hills meet the Little Alföld. The area is a good starting point for hikers, hunters, and people who love the countryside. Distances: Budapest about 150 km away, Győr about 60 km, Lake Balaton about 80 km, Veszprém about 60 km, and Pápa about 15 km.

Ugod covers about 62.8 square kilometers. In 2002, about 1,660 people lived there, giving a density of around 24 people per square kilometer. The postal code is 8564 and the area code is 89. The time zone is CET (UTC+1), switching to CEST (UTC+2) in summer.

History: Ugod is first mentioned in 1289 in a royal charter from King Ladislaus IV during a campaign. It is uncertain whether a fortress existed then, since the charter says “in Ugod” rather than “at Ugod fortress.” In the medieval period, Ugod was part of Bakony Erdőispánság, ruled by an ispán. King Stephen V granted land to Demeter Csák and allowed him to build a fortress, and the Csák family (linked to the Árpád dynasty) is tied to the village’s name. The name Ugod likely comes from a member of the Csák family named Ugod, a form of the name Ugrin. In the 19th and 20th centuries, Jews lived in Ugod; many were killed during the Holocaust.
