USS Northampton (SP-670)

USS Northampton (SP-670) was a wooden motor boat used by the U.S. Navy for patrol duties during World War I. Built by Wilson in Birdsnest, Virginia, it was acquired on free lease from John A. Parsons of Norfolk, Virginia, on May 5, 1917. Named after Northampton, Massachusetts, the boat remained with that name. It was assigned to the 5th Naval District and patrolled the coast on section patrol missions. The Northampton was returned to its owner on December 19, 1918. Specifications: wooden motor boat, 38 ft long, 11 ft beam, 2 ft draft, 8 knots speed, armed with one 1-pounder gun.
