Tynemouth and District Tramways
Tynemouth and District Tramways ran a 3 ft narrow-gauge tram line between North Shields and Tynemouth from 1883 to 1900. It began with horse-drawn trams. The depot was on Suez Street, North Shields. In 1884 the line was taken over by the North Shields and District Tramways Company, which introduced steam locomotives. In 1897 the line was taken over by the North Shields and Tynemouth District Tramways, and later that year British Electric Traction took over, modernised and electrified the system, opening it as the Tynemouth and District Electric Traction Company. The route was about 2.58 miles (4.15 km) long.
