Tustin, California
Tustin is a city in Orange County, California, in the Los Angeles metropolitan area. It has about 80,000 residents and covers roughly 11 square miles. The city is bordered by Irvine, Orange, Santa Ana, and North Tustin, and is nicknamed the “City of Trees” for its many native and planted trees.
History and identity
- The area was part of the Rancho San Antonio land grant in the 1800s. Columbus Tustin, a carriage maker from Northern California, founded the city in 1868 on land from the former rancho.
- Tustin incorporated as a city in 1927.
- During World War II, a Navy airship base was built south of the city and later became a Marine helicopter station. Its large blimp hangars are historic landmarks; the north hangar burned in 2023.
- The city has grown from orchards and farmland into a suburban community with shopping centers and neighborhoods.

- Tustin is served by the Tustin Unified School District. Notable schools include Tustin High School (a California Distinguished School), Foothill High School, and Arnold O. Beckman High School. Tustin High is known for its Model United Nations program.
- Springfield College is also located in Tustin.
