Sewaren is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Woodbridge Township, Middlesex County, New Jersey. It covers 1.66 square miles (1.22 land and 0.44 water) and sits about 16 feet above sea level. The 2020 census counted 2,885 residents.

The community is bordered by Perth Amboy to the south, Woodbridge to the west, Port Reading to the north, and the Arthur Kill waterway to the east (which separates Sewaren from Staten Island). Woodbridge Creek forms the western and southern borders, and Smith Creek runs through the east side.

A major feature is the Sewaren Generating Station, a 538-megawatt power plant along the Arthur Kill. It has a long history of units, with Unit 7 added in 2018 as a 538 MW combined-cycle unit.
