Transit (2005 film)
Transit is a 2005 MTV Europe television film and the first TV movie produced by MTV. Filmed in St. Petersburg, Mexico City, Nairobi and Los Angeles, it follows four people from different parts of the world whose lives intersect as they travel and reflect on life, love and sexuality. The story unfolds in a non-linear way and centers on Tatjana in Russia, Asha in Los Angeles, Champy in Nairobi, and their evolving connections. Tatjana leaves an abusive relationship in St. Petersburg and follows Ruben to Mexico City, where she discovers he is married and ends up turning to Champy for help. Asha, a film student heading to Nairobi to shoot a documentary, confronts Vip’s infidelity in Los Angeles, which strains her engagement. In Nairobi, Asha struggles with funding for her project while meeting locals like Matthew and crossing paths with Champy. Transit was made for MTV’s Staying Alive campaign to raise HIV awareness and reduce stigma, and was partially funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency. It aired on MTV networks on December 1, 2005 (World AIDS Day) and is available online through Staying Alive and YouTube.
