Tours Congress
The Tours Congress was the 18th National Congress of the French Section of the Workers' International (SFIO). It took place in Tours from December 25 to 30, 1920. The majority voted to join the Third International (Comintern) and to create the French Section of the Communist International, which became the French Communist Party in 1921. The SFIO split into two main groups at the congress: SFIC (3,208 votes) and SFIO (1,022 votes). In 1921, the CGT trade union also split, forming the Communist CGTU, which later rejoined the CGT in 1936 during the Popular Front. A young Ho Chi Minh, then Nguyen Ai Quoc, attended the congress and spoke against the exploitation of French colonies and in support of joining the Third International.
