Tony Ronaldson
Tony Ronaldson (born 25 May 1972) is a retired Australian basketball player who spent most of his career in the National Basketball League (NBL). Known as "The Bear," he stood 203 cm tall and played as a forward.
Ronaldson began his basketball journey with the Australian Institute of Sport in 1989 and started his NBL career with the Eastside Spectres in 1990. He had a brief one-game stint with the Nunawading Spectres in 1990 and spent time at Arizona State University from 1991 to 1992. After returning to Australia, he joined the South East Melbourne Magic in 1992, formed from a merger of teams.
With the Magic, Ronaldson played in four Grand Finals and won NBL championships in 1992 and 1996. He later played for the Victoria Titans (1998–2002), the Perth Wildcats (2002–2007), and the New Zealand Breakers (2007–2010). He also played for the Stirling Senators in the State Basketball League during 2005–06. He retired from the NBL after the 2009–10 season.
Ronaldson finished his NBL career with 665 games, the most in league history, and 430 wins. He scored 10,154 points (fifth all-time) and grabbed 2,642 defensive rebounds (sixth). He appeared in a league-record 20 consecutive Finals series from 1990 to 2009.
Internationally, Ronaldson represented Australia (the Boomers) at the World Championships and Olympic Games, including the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and the 2004 Athens Olympics, and won gold at the 2006 Commonwealth Games.
