Jammu and Kashmir Constitution Act 1939 (Act No. XIV of 1939) was issued by Maharaja Hari Singh, the ruler of the princely state. The act has 78 sections that describe the king’s powers and his relationship with the executive, the legislature, and the judiciary. Influenced by British rule, a High Court was established along with judicial advisers to assist the king. The law minister at the time was Justice Sir Lal Gopal Mukherjee.
