Till the End of the Moon
Till the End of the Moon is a Chinese fantasy romance TV series based on the novel Black Moonlight Holds the BE Script by Teng Luo Wei Zhi. It stars Luo Yunxi and Bai Lu and aired on Youku in 40 episodes from April 6 to May 9, 2023.
Plot
Li Susu, daughter of the Hengyang Sect leader, travels 500 years back and takes over the body of Ye Xiwu to stop the mortal Tantai Jin from becoming the Devil God. Tantai Jin is a hostage prince from the Kingdom of Jing and is married to Ye Xiwu. The two fall in love. Li Susu often sacrifices herself to save him and tries to change fate. After Li Susu dies, Tantai Jin spends 500 years searching for her soul and is rescued by a cultivation sect. He becomes a disciple of the Xiaoyao Sect and meets the reborn Li Susu again. They rekindle their love, but the truth about Tantai Jin’s nature again brings danger. He then devises a plan to stop the end of the world.
Production and reception
Filming happened from October 2021 to March 2022. It is Otter Studios’ second project with Luo Yunxi. The show is noted for its costumes and its depiction of Dunhuang culture and Chinese mythology. It was a big success in China, driving many Youku downloads and achieving a high premiere market share. Merchandise sales were strong, especially for Mingye’s bracelet. Critics praised its story about a hero’s inner strength and self-understanding, and it helped attract visitors to real-life locations in Bengbu and Xuancheng. It is regarded as a major Chinese cultural IP for 2023.
