Tia Jackson
Tia Jackson (born April 21, 1972) is a former professional basketball player and the associate head coach for the Duke Blue Devils women's basketball team. Born in Towson, Maryland, she played college basketball at Iowa from 1990 to 1995.
She was the Phoenix Mercury’s 9th overall pick in the 1997 WNBA draft and played 26 games in the 1997 season, averaging 2.8 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1 assist per game. Her debut was June 22, 1997 against the Charlotte Sting, and her final game was August 28, 1997 in the Western Conference Championship against the New York Liberty. She was waived by Phoenix on June 10, 1998. Jackson earned a bachelor’s degree in media studies and film.
Jackson has more than two decades of coaching experience. She began as an assistant at VCU (1996–1999), then Stanford (1999–2000) and UCLA (2000–2005). She returned to Duke as an assistant (2005–2007), helping the team reach the 2006 NCAA championship game. She later coached at Washington (2007–2011), Rutgers (2011–2015) and Miami (Florida) (2015–2020). While at Miami, the Hurricanes won more than 20 games in four seasons, made the NCAA Tournament four times, and reached the Round of 32 in 2017 and 2019. In 2020 she came back to Duke as an assistant, and in 2022 she was promoted to associate head coach.
