Thorius smithi, or Smith's salamander, is a critically endangered salamander in the Plethodontidae family. It is found only in Mexico, known from two sites near the towns of Vista Hermosa and Metates in the Sierra Juárez mountains of Oaxaca. It lives on the forest floor in cloud and tropical forests, hiding under rocks and logs. The species is very rare, with only a few sightings despite searches. The main threats are habitat loss from logging and the expansion of agriculture, which remove its forest home.
